 Sustainability Related Classes
Chatting with Sony yesterday, it's clear that engineers have no idea what classes environmental studies offers, and vice versa. It's also probably true (though debatable?) that each set taking a class or two in the other's area would be beneficial for all involved.
Engineering classes: CEE 1210/2210: Engineering and Sustainable Development CEE 1209/2209: Life Cycle Assessment CEE 1217/2217: Green Buildings: Design and Construction (LEED Centered) CEE 1218/2218: Design for Environment (Both in theory and in client-based projects)
If someone could post a list of relevant ES classes (or more engineering classes) that would be great.

 Re: Sustainability Related Classes
It is possible for non-engineers to take these classes, you just need permission from the appropriate professor. In terms of math, any engineering class presumes that you are at least not afraid of numbers and math, but I don't believe that any of the above require anything beyond algebra. Are you that scared of math?

 Re: Sustainability Related Classes
terrified. actually i can handle most algebra and trigonometry, anything above that would be a problem and the mere mention of calculus leaves me cowering in the corner

 Re: Sustainability Related Classes
*Bump* as part of a new FtP campaign to actually get a sustainability gen-ed. For a starting list of possible classes, see http://www.pitt.edu/~esweb/courses/electives.htmlCurrent plan is to develop a list of 5ish possible pre-reqs for a course to meet a sustainability gen-ed requirement, out of which a course should meet 3ish. Current list of possibilities: -Definitions of sustainability -Global Warming -Specific Issues: Sustainability & Food Mining/Drilling Energy -Science of the environment -Environmental impacts/ Life Cycle

 Re: Sustainability Related Classes
There's also the study abroad class "Energy Tomorrow," although that one is strictly for engineering students only...and significantly more expensive than all the other classes.
I don't think most engineers even know what sustainability classes they can get unless they happen to be in Civi/Enviro Engineering. Back in the day when I was looking for classes to take, it was sort of confusing.

 Re: Sustainability Related Classes
Eva and I have perused the A&S Course catalog for courses that could potentially cover sustainability. We were pretty generous in our evaluation so lots of these courses probably won't end up qualifying, but we thought it was better to be broad in the beginning. Moving forward, we plan on contacting Mark Collins and other department heads for syllabi so we can begin to narrow the designation. Feel free to comment with any classes you've taken that could possibly fit in because we need as many as possible to make this work.

 Re: Sustainability Related Classes
This is a huge and great list! The two civil classes you have would probably not qualify, actually - environmental engineering is wastewater treatment, not sustainability (always annoying, IMO). the 1200 set at the top of this thread should be some of the base for defining the requirement though.
