Skills everyone should have: A communal list
So, after reading
this article, it got me thinking that while it's good to offer to teach skills, sometimes we don't know what we should be learning (see also: people who hate math in high school). So, what skills do you think everyone should be able to do?
From the article:
1. Cook (details as you want, but probably some variety of meals and local food)
2. Basic carpetry
3. Make soap
4. Knife sharpening
5. Home maintenance
6. Sewing/mending
I'd add:
Store food (which I see as distinct from #1)
Grow food (at least a basic idea - or not?)
Debate a point (in formal style - this is something that was drilled into me for 6 years and made my self-formed opinions much better)
What else do you think everyone should be able to do (and if you can teach one of the above, probably best to toss that up here as well)?
