Where do you live and why?
‘Let’s play a game. It’s called ‘Who is your Daddy, and what does he do?’’
Anyway. I have Questions. Mainly around the concept of getting to the root reasons for why our society is the way it is. Let’s start with this one:
Where do you live, and why? and, if you know the answer, Where do your parents live, and why?

Re: Where do you live and why?
My parents live where they live because that's where they got jobs. I'm living in Pittsburgh now because it's where I chose to go to school... and hopefully in the future where I live will not be determined by the job market!

Ok... so what criteria would you like to be able to use (free of job restrictions)?

Re: Where do you live and why?
I live in Pittsburgh because I went to school here, and now I work here. Specifically, I live in Oakland, but the neighborhood changes monthly. In the past year, I've lived in North Oakland, South Oakland, East Oakland, and Shadyside. My job right now is in Wilmerding, which is a good 10 miles away from the Oakland/Shadyside area, so it would make more sense for me (work-wise) to move much closer, like Point Breeze, Wilkinsburg, or Edgewood, but there are a few reasons why I won't do this.
1. My social life is in central Pittsburgh, so if I move to cut the work commute, or making biking to work easier, I'll have to also start driving to do social activities (as opposed to biking around).
2. My job involves 50-60% travel, so living closer to the office will only offset my footprint 50-40% of the time.
3. I am a strong believer in living near as possible to urban centers.
4. There's greater status in living in central Pittsburgh, particularly Shadyside/Squirrel Hill
Although, if I did move to Point Breeze, I would be much closer to The Climbing Wall...
